Cultural significance means 'aesthetic, historic, scientific or social value for past, present or future generations'!

The subject for this piece is the interior of an abandoned passenger train in Galveston, Tx.  The train is somewhat of an urban legend there.  Most locals seem to have heard of it.  But few know where it is.  They assume it's part of the Railroad Museum.  But it's not.  It's surrounded by overgrown weeds on a seldom used track on Union Pacific property.

I found it based on a tip from a host I had at Plein Air Southwest in 2021.  So, when I arrived for PASW 2023, it was at the top of my "to paint" list.

I climbed aboard and discovered the absolute rusted wreck of an interior covered with graffiti.  Oddly details of things like the hand holds were still in place.  I had to paint it.  But, not right away.  I but it on the back burner for the week so I could ponder the situation.  Ultimately, the resultant painting received the Award Of Excellence for Best Interior.
